Forecasts that read like a sentence.
Every hour, day and week comes with a plain-English summary, so you don't have to decode a row of icons.
Launching first on the web
Rainfolio reads live NOAA radar every two minutes and tells you, in plain English, what the sky will do over the next hour, the next two days and the week ahead. Built for a glance, not a scroll.
Our own radar nowcast
Most apps license a minute-by-minute forecast from someone else. We build ours from raw NOAA MRMS radar, the national 1 km composite, the way Dark Sky did. Every two minutes, for every point we cover.
Rain or snow, minute by minute. Each minute carries radar's precipitation type, so “snow starting in 8 min” means snow.
Blended, not bolted on. Radar leads the first minutes, then hands over gradually to the forecast model by the end of the hour.
Always labelled. Every next-hour forecast says whether it came from radar or the model. Today radar covers the US and southern Canada; everywhere else gets the model.
Accuracy, in public
Our radar service scores every nowcast against what NOAA measured afterwards, frame by frame, all day. The bar to clear is persistence: assuming the rain stays exactly where it is now. Plenty of forecasts struggle to beat it.
Critical Success Index (CSI): of all the places where rain was forecast or fell, the share we called correctly. 1.0 is perfect. Measured 29 Oct 2026 against NOAA MRMS PrecipRate.
| Lead time | Rainfolio | Persistence | Gain |
|---|---|---|---|
| +10 min | 0.69 | 0.63 | +10% |
| +30 min | 0.55 | 0.44 | +25% |
| +60 min | 0.46 | 0.36 | +28% |
What's inside
Every hour, day and week comes with a plain-English summary, so you don't have to decode a row of icons.
A 10% chance of a passing shower won't paint your whole Saturday as rain.
Scrub from past radar into 47 hours of forecast on one timeline. Layer on temperature, wind, clouds and more, with wind that actually moves. Play it back at anything from half speed to 10×.
Solid bars are likely. Faint ones are possible. You can see the uncertainty without reading a percentage.
Alerts from the National Weather Service and Environment Canada, in one readable format, with the warned area drawn on the map.
Your last forecast is on screen the moment you open the app, and a fresh one arrives in under 0.7 seconds.
How we're different
Weather apps have drifted toward autoplay video, ads and ten-day guesses dressed up as certainty. We're going the other way.
API-first
Rainfolio is an API with an app on top. The commercial plan will open it up: current conditions, the next hour minute by minute, hourly data through day 7, alerts, map grids and radar tiles, with summaries already written.

Where we're headed
Here's what we're building first, and what we're exploring after that.
Minute-by-minute rain, plain-English forecasts and a map that runs from two hours ago to two days ahead. Launching first on the web.
